cover

I actually like this cover, the colors are really appealing and the girl looks really strong and ready to take on anything. This is the cover I have in my possession, but while looking through goodreads I saw this cover and I hate it. It looks like she is spooning with a guy inside a womb. Seriously big turn-off!

plot

So Aria (love that name by the way) has lived inside this dome thing her whole life. And in this dome everyone pretty much stays home and lives their life through a virtual world. Kinda of like that website secondlife.com. After losing touch with her mother (who is currently doing science experiments in another dome), Aria leaves the virtual world and tries to get in touch with her mother. Through some unfortunate -and evil- happenings, she is cast out of the dome and into the wild where the “Savages” live.

Perry a “savage” is just trying to keep his clan safe from the continuing Aether storms that bring destruction to the land. Coming from opposites worlds, these two somehow find each other and their relationship grows from mistrust to understanding.

WOW it is so hard to summarize this book because there is so much going on. Aether storms, virtual worlds, savages and clans. Rossi does a good job of both building an interesting world and a beautiful relationship. Before this book I had yet to start a YA book and finish it. I was in a slump, but this book grabbed my attention and didn’t let go.

writing style

I really like Rossi’s writing style. It not too superfluous, but I could imagine this world perfectly. I love the tension between Perry and Aria. It just was very well done.

characters

At first Aria was just blah to me, she even gave up a little easily in the beginning after being thrown out. Then I placed myself in her sheltered shoes, and her actions seemed reasonable. At first meeting Perry, I didn’t really fall in love with him either. Like Aria, the more I got to know him the more I was attracted. Also, while I am sure a savage person is gross because he rarely showers and lives in the wild, I prefer to imagine Perry like this…

yes Brian Krause from Charmed, pictured here from movie Return to the Blue Lagoon

There were so many little things I loved about their relationship. They are both so strong willed, yet caring. Seriously, one of my favorite YA I have read in the last two months.

pace

It was one thing after another in this book, and that was probably on of the reasons I couldn’t put it down.

uniqueness

I love that yes this is a dystopain, but there was also these two different worlds. One based on technology and the other more medieval/older world order. I think this might be one of my favorite worlds of the dystopian books, just because of this cool mix.

This is one of the best books of the genre I’ve read in a long time. Actually, mixed genres…I loved it so much. Also…

“spooning with a guy inside a womb” —> laughing my butt off right now at this. Sorry, can’t help it!
